Today, Thursday, September 21, the World Biodiversity Summit is taking place in New York. This event is organized as part of the Global Biodiversity Network of the Global Climate Foundation, on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly and the New York Climate Week.

It is a pioneering platform for global public-private partnerships aimed at addressing the urgent need to restore biodiversity through nature-based solutions and positive investments in nature connecting the climate and biodiversity agendas.

Now that the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework has been approved, it is time to implement it. That is why the World Biodiversity Summit agenda is designed to encourage businesses and financial institutions to ensure sustainable production patterns and reduce risks while identifying the opportunities offered by nature.

The program is structured around the goals of the new global biodiversity framework and focuses on its implementation. The sessions take a solution-oriented approach, facilitating the exchange of expert views on how to achieve the new biodiversity goals and translate them into concrete actions.

Below are the main topics on the agenda of the World Biodiversity Summit:

  • Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
  • Bridging the financial gap in nature, by addressing investment risks, challenges, and opportunities
  • Integrating technology into the preservation and restoration of natural resources
  • Regenerative value chains through improved forestry, agricultural production and water management
  • Bioeconomy and nature-friendly food systems
  • Synergistic action for clean energy and nature
